Diary Entry #5 (Jenni)

Dear diary,

I did it.

I actually did it!

There is no way to describe how much pain and excitement went into this birth. It took 11 hours for our beautiful baby to come into this world. By the way, it’s a girl!! I decided to name her Deborah Lynn. I am still trying to decide if I should give her my last name or Goodwin’s. My parents say that I should give her mine, and then we can change it later. I really might do that.

Deborah Lynn Jones-Brown.

It has such the perfect ring to it!

Goodwin did show up in time, by the way. I was happy that he was there for us both. He also offered to come home with me after the birth to help me care for her while I rest. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that.

The labor was really intense. About 6 hours after I got to the hospital, I was 9 centimeters dilated and they told me that I could start pushing soon. I don’t know how my body knew that it was ready to push, but all of a sudden I just felt the intense urge to push down. I had to fight it because I wasn’t dilated enough and the baby was still getting situated in the canal.

I can tell you though that that epidural saved my life. I was in so much pain that I couldn’t keep anything down and I was hot all over. Nothing felt good and I wanted to rip that baby right out of me.

Funny story is that I wound up putting my dad in a headlock because I was in so much pain. I couldn’t/wouldn’t let him go until my contraction passed. I don’t think I’ll be having another baby anytime soon. One was enough.

So the nurse just came in and told me that they have Deborah ready to go home. I’m really excited to see what my mom has done for the baby. She said that she went out and found a crib that we could afford and has it set up  – I hope it’s not some rickety old thing.

Well… The taxi is here. I guess the next time I write will be when I get Deborah in a routine.

We’ll see anyways.
